PUGLIA: Ondanks dat het wat heuvelachtig is hier en daar is het voor de sportieve fietser goed mogelijk van hieruit tochtjes te maken. Bijv. het platteland in de omgeving te verkennen, naar Noci (9 km.) of naar Alberobello (ongev. 16 km.) en ook Gioia del Colle is een heel leuke rit, grootdeels over het platteland. In Gioia is het mogelijk het kasteel te bekijken.  

Mozaïek San Nicola/Sint Nicolaas

Bari: prachtige boulevard “Lungomare”, de Basiliek van San Nicola, alwaar de [uit Turkije ontvoerde] stoffelijke resten van “onze” Sint Nicolaas zich bevinden in het Orthodoxe gedeelte. Dit bevindt zich onder de gelijkvloerse "gewone" katholieke kerk. San Nicola is  de patroonheilige van Bari, Griekenland en Rusland. In Bari  vinden 2e helft Juli ieder jaar de "Notte di Stelle" plaats. Bijzondere concerten in een magnifieke omgeving en tegen een zeer bescheiden prijs.

In  2011 is het programma: 

Bari Camerata Musicale 

De kaartjes zijn o.a. te koop bij de Camerata in Bari, Via Sparano 141, Tel. 00390805211908. 

Deze avonden vormen bij uitstek een gelegenheid om voorafgaand aan de concerten Bari te verkennen en ook te zien dat tot ver na middernacht aan Lungomare er een gezellige drukte heerst met hele families uit het nabijgelegen antieke deel van de stad die daar zitten te kaarten, te BBQen, te kletsen etc. 

Achter de Basiliek van San Nicola het historische gedeelte van Bari met diverse bijzonder kerken ook. Iedere stad en dorp hier heeft een historisch deel met nauwe straatjes om door te dwalen, heerlijke geuren van de Italiaanse gerechten die je tegen lunchtijd tegemoet komen en  onverwachtse mooie plekjes. In Bari ook een van de vele door Frederico II gebouwde kastelen.

Vanuit Bari vertrekken veerboten naar diverse bestemmingen in Griekenland, Albanie en voormalig Joegoslavie.

Taranto: belangrijke Marinehaven, mooie boulevard met beelden van zeemeerminnen in het water, overblijfselen van Griekse tempel en Muse- um met overblijfselen uit de Griekse tijd.

Bekend om zijn mosselen en vis.

Alberobello:  de hoofdstad van de Trulli.

Op slechts  16 km. rijden vanaf  Villa Lavanda.

Dit is een toeristische plaats, maar je moet het echt gaan zien. Hier komen toeristen uit de hele wereld naar kijken. Ongeveer 1000 trulli zijn hier bewaard gebleven en een heel liefelijke trulli-kerk.   Men zal trachten je te verleiden tot het proeven van typisch Pugliese specialiteiten en likeuren.

Monopoli: Schitterende havenstad aan de Adriatische Zee. Alleen al de weg er naar toe is prachtig! Aan de rijk gedecoreerde Kathedraal is een Legende verbonden die we graag aan onze gasten zullen vertellen en een wandeling langs de stadsmuur die langs de Adriatico loopt, voert naar een verdedigingstoren gebouwd door de ook bij ons vanuit het verleden bekende  Karel V en uiteindelijk naar een pittoresk vissershaventje.

Aan de rand van Monopoli een uitstekend restaurant aan 2 kanten door de Adriatische Zee omgeven.

Vanuit Monopoli zuidwaarts langs de Adriatico rijden is heel mooi en we weten dan bijv. bij Savelletri weer een leuk restaurantje dat aan 3 kanten door de zee is omgeven. Even daarvoor de opgravingen van Egnazia met museum. De dichter Horatio deed in 38 vChr. deze plaats al aan.

Matera: dit is Basilicata, maar slechts een uurtje rijden. Stad van grotwoningen- en kerken en met een landschap van een ruige onbedorven schoonheid. Tot 1952 waren deze grotten nog bewoond. Hier werden reeds vele films opgenomen (o.a. The Passion Of The Christ) vanwege de zeer bijzondere omgeving. Een stad met een lange en veelbewogen geschiedenis.

Tot onze favorieten aldaar behoren een bezoek aan het Museum in het Palazzo Lanfranchi, de kathedraal en een zeer speciaal restaurantje. Het museum is gespecialiseerd in de werken van Carlo Levi die naast schilder ook een bekend schrijver was met werken als “Cristo si è Fermato a Eboli”.Verder in dit museum prachtige religieuze kunst. Het Palazzo op zich is al schitterend. Nieuw in 2009: er is een schitterende termiek boven de gravina en daar zeilen nu allemaal valken rond.

De Adriatische Zee op 48 km en de Ionische Zee op maar 22 minuten rijden.

Aan beide diverse prachtige stranden. Wij zullen u hier graag meer over vertellen.
 
Wijn- en olijvenroutes en overal schitterende Barokarchitectuur, daar hoef je niet helemaal voor naar Lecce te rijden zou je denken.......

Maar Lecce is een schitterende stad!

De rit dubbel en dwars waard. Een overdaad aan Barok en als je het niet allemaal te voet wilt doen is er ook een treintje waarmee je een rondrit van een uur kunt maken langs alle belangrijke Palazzi en Kerken.

En niet te vergeten  Martina Franca en de Itrie Vallei!

We zullen je graag de oude weg van Noci naar Martina uitleggen en in de Italie Vallei vind je de trulli in grote getale "in het wild". En natuurlijk de schitterende Witte Stad, Ostuni!

 Waar langs de Adriatische kust de schitterende eeuwenoude olijvenbomen de boventoon voeren is dit langs de Ionische kust het citrusfruit, die geur hangt helemaal in de lucht.

En last but not least Noci!

Een stuk oude stad, de prachtige Moederkerk met het beeld van San Rocco, onze beschermheilige en het restaurantje “L’Antica Locanda”, de wekelijkse markt en nog dichter bij huis het klooster/sanctuarium "Madonna della Scala".

Een goede tip: bezoek in Puglia eens één van de vele Sagre. Een Sagra is van oudsher een religieus feest waarbij er in de open lucht gezamenlijk gegeten wordt om een locale oogst of productie in te wijden. Zo is er de Sagra del fungho (van de paddestoel), de sagra del vino (wijn), etc. Er wordt betaalbaar en goed gegeten, meestal aan lange tafels  met een beperkt menu en een goede wijn. Ook heel interessant zijn bij jvoorbeeld de locale antiekmarkten. Hier in de buurt bijv. iedere derde zondag van de maand in Martina Franca, maar ook elders in Puglia vinden deze plaats. Ook tijdens de vele locale religieuze feesten is er altijd een civiel programma en is het heel gezellig in het dorp: kramen te over met olijven en nootjes, speelgoed, kleding en schoenen, terrasjes open en iederen loopt wat rond, eet wat en komt elkaar tegen.

Ook zijn er 's-zomers in het dorp  en ook in het nabij gelegen Alberobello muziekavonden in de open lucht, meestal op het dorpsplein, dit kan klassiek zijn, wereldmuziek, Jazz, van alles. Ook worden modeshows georganiseerd en velerlei andere activiteiten. 

In Februari vindt in het nabij gelegen Putignano het Carnaval plaats met optochten met grote papiermaché poppen e.d. en feestelijkheden in het antieke gedeelte van dit stadje. Ook 's-zomers hebben ze nog een aan het carnaval verwant programma. Ook het nabij gelegen stadje Massafra (richting Taranto) heeft een eigen carnaval.

Ook bevinden zich diverse golfbanen in de omgeving en......

Op ongeveer 45 min. rijden excursies per quad mèt of zonder passagier en evt. te combineren met een lunch en workshop volksmuziek- en dans.

Zelfde afstand, zelfde plaats (Castellana Grotte), ja de plaats zegt het al, de grotten van Castellana met museum.

Op een klein uurtje afstand, in Selva di Fasano: Zoo Safari met eigen auto en vele andere attracties.

In Molfetta, net noordelijk van Bari, een nieuw attractiepark!

Zo kunnen we nog lang door gaan, maar hier ter plekke zullen we er graag meer over vertellen.

APULIA    

Notwithstanding  the slightly hilly roads, for a sporting cyclist it is very well possible to make cycling-tours from Villa Lavanda. Explore the country side of Apulia, to  Noci (9 km.) or to Alberobello (16 km.) and also the ride to Gioia del Colle is very pleasant and most of it is on the country roads behind Villa Lavanda. In Gioia it is possible to visit the Castle.

Bari: beautiful  boulevard “Lungomare”, the  Basilica of Saint Nicolas, where the mortal remains of Saint Nicolas rest in the  Orthodox part under the “normal” Catholic church on the ground floor. Saint Nicolas is the Patron of Bari, Greece and Russia.  

Every year in the second half  of July the concerts of the  "Notte di Stelle" take place. Jazz concerts on world level in a magnificent surrounding and for a very modest price.

Bari Camerata Musicale 

A ticket for the  3 concerts of the Notte di Stelle costs only  € 40,00  or € 50,00 (reduced to 40 euro for under 25 years) and thatfor artists of this level is peanuts and only possible because this yearly event is heavily subsidised and sponsored.

Individual tickets at € 20,00 or € 25,00.

The nights of the concerts are a good opportunaty  to get to know Bari and  also see how lively Lungomare is till far after midnight when all the residents of the ancient part of Bari seem to come here to chat, play cards, BBQ and enjoy the cooler late evenings near the sea after a hot day.

Behind the Basilica also the ancient part of Bari with several particular churches. Every town and village here has an ancient part with narrow streets to explore, smell the flavours of the Italian kitchen and unex-pected nice  spots.  In Bari also one of many Castles built by Frederico II.

From Bari ferries to several destinations in Greece, Albania and former Yugoslavia.

Taranto: important  Marine harbour, beautiful boulevard with statues of sea mermaids  in the water, remains of a  Greek temple and a museum with artefacts from the Greek period. Known for its mussels and fish.

Alberobello:  the capital of the  Trulli. At only  16 km. from Villa Lavanda.

This is a tourist spot, but you have to see it!. Tourists from the whole world come to see this!. About 1000 trulli have been preserved and a very lovely Trulli-church. One will try to tempt you to sample the typical  Apulian specialities and liquors.

Monopoli: Marvellous harbour-city on the Adriatic Sea. Already the road to it is magnificent! We will happily tell you the Legend of the richly decorated Cathedral and a walk along the old defence walls  on the Adriatic shore takes you to the defence tower build by Charles V and in the end to a picturesque fisherman’s harbour.

Just outside  Monopoli we can recommend an excellent  restaurant surrounded by the sea on two sides.

Driving south from Monopoli along the sea is magnificent and here we can  recommend you a very nice restaurant near Savelletri  surrounded by the sea on 3 sides. Just before Savelletri the excavations of Egnazio with museum. The poet Horatio visited this place in  38 B.C.

Matera: this is Basilicata, but at most an hours drive. City of cave dwellings and -churches with a landscape  of  rugged unspoiled beauty that was the background of many films, (i.e. The Passion Of The Christ). Until 1952 whole families still lived in these caves. A city with a long and very eventful history.

Amongst our favourites there we recon the  Museum in the Lanfranchi Palazzo and the  Cathedral and a very special typical restaurant. The museum is specialised in the paintings of  Carlo Levi who also was a famous writer with works like “Christ stopped at  Eboli”. Further the  museum has a magnificent collection of religious art. The Palazzo in itself  is already worth visiting. New  in 2009: there is a very good thermal current above the ravine and lots of falcons are sailing above it now.

The  Adriatic Sea at 48 km and the Ionian Sea at only 22 minutes!

On both coasts beautiful beaches from intimate coves to long sandy beaches.
 
Wine- and olive routes and magnificent Baroque architecture everywhere. You don’t have to drive all the way to Lecce for that you would think……

But Lecce is a city of splendour!

Worth every inch of the journey there! A superabundance of Baroque and when you don’t want to walk all the way you can make an hour’s tour in a small train and see all the important Palazzos and Churches.

And  Martina Franca en de Itrian Valley!

We will happily show you the old way from  Noci to Martina with its Ducal Palace  and in the Italian Valley you will find large numbers of “wild” Trulli.  

And of course the splendid White City,  Ostuni!

Where on the Adriatic coast the centuries old olive trees predominate on the  Ionian it’s the Citrus trees. The fragrance is lovely.

And last but not least Noci!

The ancient town, the Mother-church with the statue of San Rocco, our Patron and the typical restaurant “L’Antica Locanda”, the weekly market and closer to Villa Lavanda the Sanctuary of the  “Madonna della Scala”.

A good tip: do visit  once one of the many Sagre in Puglia. A Sagra is traditionally a religious feast which is in the open air eating together to initiate a local crop or production. There is the Sagra del fungho (the mushroom), the Sagra del vino (wine), etc. It is affordable and good eating, often at long tables with a limited menu and good wine. Also very interesting are the local antique markets. In Martina Franca every third Sunday of the month, but also elsewhere in Puglia every Sunday somewhere an antique market takes place. During the many local religious festivals there is always also a civilian program and it  is always very convivial in town then: lots of  stands  with olives and nuts, toys, clothes and shoes, open terraces and everybody  walking  around, eating what they just bought, meeting friends and chatting. 

Also, in summer in Noci and in nearby Alberobello music evenings in the open air, usually on the village square, it can be classical, world music, jazz, etc. Fashion shows are also organized and  many other activities.  

In February in nearby Putignano Carnival parades take  place with large papier mache dolls and similar festivities in the ancient part of this town. Also in the summer they have a program akin to the carnival. The nearby town of Massafra (Taranto direction) has its own carnival. 

Also several Golf courses in Puglia. 

at about 45 min. excursions with  quads, with or without passenger and with or without a lunch and folkmusic and folkdance workshop.

Same distance, same place (Castellana Grotte), the name indicates it already: the  Castellana grottoes with museum.

At a bit less than an  hour, in Selva di Fasano: Zoo Safari with your own car.

 PUGLIA 

Nonostante le strade un po’ collinare, per un ciclista sportivo è ben possibile effettuare escursioni in bici da Villa Lavanda. Esplorare il lato paese della Puglia, a Noci (9 km.) O ad Alberobello (16 km.) Ed anche il tragitto fino a Gioia del Colle è molto piacevole e la maggior parte di essa è nelle strade di campagna dietro Villa Lavanda. In Gioia è possibile visitare il Castello.  

La costa Adriatica

Bari:  boulevard bello "Lungomare", la Basilica di Saint Nicolas, in cui si trova la salma di San Nicola nella parte ortodossa sotto  la chiesa "normale"  al piano terra. San Nicola è il patrono di Bari,  Grecia e Russia.

A Bari ogni anno nella seconda metà di luglio si da i concerti delle "Notte di Stelle". I concerti di jazz a livello mondiale in un magnifico ambiente e per un prezzo molto modesto.

Le notti dei concerti sono un opportunità buona per conoscere Bari e anche vedere come è vivace Lungomare fino a ben dopo la mezzanotte, quando tutti i residenti della parte antica di Bari sembrano venire qui a chiacchierare, giocare a carte, barbecue e godersi il fresco fine serate in riva al mare dopo una giornata calda.

Dietro la Basilica anche la parte antica di Bari con diverse Chiese particolari. Ogni città e villaggio qui ha una parte antica, con strette vie da esplorare, odorare i sapori della cucina italiana e  bei posti inaspettati. A Bari anche uno dei tanti castelli costruiti da Federico II.

Traghetti da Bari a più destinazioni in Grecia, Albania ed ex Jugoslavia.

Taranto: porto marina importante, boulevard bello, con statue di sirene di mare in acqua, resti di un tempio greco e di un museo con i reperti del periodo Greco. Noto per la sua cozze e pesce.

Alberobello: la capitale dei trulli. A soli 16 km. da Villa Lavanda.

Questo è un luogo turistico, ma bisogna vederlo! Turisti provenienti da tutto il mondo vengono a vederlo! Circa 1000 trulli sono state conservate. È molto bella la chiesa trulli, dedicata a S. Antonio. Si cercherà di tentarle di gustare le specialità tipiche Pugliesi e i liquori locali.

Monopoli: porto stupende città sul Mar Adriatico. Già la strada tra Noci e Monopoli è magnifico! Ci sarà lieto di dirvi la Leggenda della Cattedrale, riccamente decorato e una passeggiata lungo le vecchie mura di difesa della sponda dell'Adriatico vi porta alla torre di difesa costruito da Charles V e alla fine al porto di pescatori pittoresco.

Appena fuori Monopoli possiamo consigliare un ottimo ristorante circondata dal mare su due lati.

Guidare da Monopoli a sud lungo il mare è splendido e qui possiamo suggerire un bel ristorante vicino Savelletri circondata dal mare su 3 lati. Poco prima di Savelletri gli scavi di Egnazio con il museo. Il poeta Orazio visitato questo luogo nel 38 a C.

Matera: questa è la Basilicata, ma al massimo un'ora di auto. Città di case-e chiese grotte  con un paesaggio di selvaggia bellezza incontaminata che è stato lo sfondo di molti film, (vale a dire La Passione di Cristo). Fino al 1952, intere famiglie vivevano ancora in queste grotte. Una città con una storia lunga e molto ricca di eventi.

Tra i nostri preferiti  il Museo di Palazzo Lanfranchi, il Duomo e un ristorante tipica molto particolare. Il museo è specializzata in dipinti di Carlo Levi, che era anche un famoso scrittore con opere come "Cristo si è fermato a Eboli". Ulteriormente il museo ha una magnifica collezione d'arte religiosa. Il Palazzo di per sé già vale la pena visitarlo. Nuovo nel 2009: c'è un meraviglioso corrente termica sopra la gravina e li su tanti falconi fanno vela.

Il Mare Adriatico a 48 km e il Mar Ionio, a soli 22 minuti!

Su entrambe le coste bellissime spiagge da calette intime a lunghe spiagge sabbiose.

I percorsi d'oliva e del vino e da per  tutta bella architettura Barocca. Si penserebbe che non si dovrebbe guidare a  a Lecce.......

Ma Lecce è una città di splendore!
Vale la pena ogni centimetro del viaggio! Una sovrabbondanza di Barocco e quando non si vuole camminare si può fare visita guidata di un'ora in un piccolo treno per vedere tutte le importanti palazzi e chiese.

Martina Franca e la Valle d'Itria!

Saremo lieti di mostrarvi la  vecchia  strada da Noci a Martina con il suo Palazzo Ducale e nella Valle d'Itria  troverete un gran numero di  Trulli "selvaggi".

E naturalmente la splendida Città Bianca, Ostuni!

Dove sulla costa Adriatica predominano ulivi secolari,   sullo Ionio sono gli  agrumi. Il profumo è delizioso.

E, ultimo ma non meno importante Noci!

L'antica città, la chiesa Madre con la statua di San Rocco, nostra Patrona e il tipico ristorante "L'Antica Locanda", il mercato settimanale e più vicina alla Villa Lavanda,  il Santuario della Madonna della Scala .

Ci sono anche diversi campi da golf in Puglia. 

A circa 45 min. excursione guidata in quad (al mare o in collina) Anche possibile combinare con il pranzo  e stage di pizzica e danze popolari locali e dal mondo.

Stessa distanza e paese (Castellana Grotte), come dice già il nome: le grotte di  Castellana e museo.

A un oretta, a  Selva di Fasano: Zoo Safari con proprio macchina e tanto altro.

A Molfetta, Nord di  Bari, un parco di divertimento nuovo!

Così si potrebbe ancora andare avanti a lungo,  ma preferiamo dirti di più di persona.
